A Blessing, A Challenge, and A Solution
We have been handed a tremendous blessing, a small problem, and, together, I believe, a solution.
The blessing is nearly 7,000 Audio Bibles that Minister Fred has placed into our hands.
The challenge is figuring out how to get them into the hands and ears of the people who need them most.
And the solution has always been the same:
The people of God working together.
After praying about all of this, the Lord brought me to 1 Samuel 30 and the battle at Ziklag.
David and his men returned home after a three-day march only to find their city burned to the ground. Their wives and children were gone. Everything they owned had been carried away by the Amalekites.
Scripture tells us they wept until they had no strength left. In their grief and anger, some of the men even spoke of killing David.
But David sought the Lord, and God told him to pursue the enemy because everything would be recovered.
So they set out immediately.
After returning to Ziklag on the third day, discovering their homes destroyed and their families taken captive, weeping until they had no strength remaining, and then marching roughly fifteen more miles in pursuit of the Amalekites, about two hundred of David's men finally collapsed from exhaustion at the Brook Besor and could go no farther.
David instructed them to remain behind with the baggage and provisions while the others crossed over into battle.
The Lord gave them victory.
They recovered their wives, their children, their livestock, and everything that had been taken from them. They also took the spoil of the Amalekites.
Yet on the return journey, some of the men who had crossed into battle began mocking those who had stayed behind with the supplies. They argued that the men who remained with the baggage should not share in the victory because they had not crossed the river to fight.
David stopped them immediately.
"And every evil and worthless man of the men who went with David answered and said, 'Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any thing from the spoil that we have seized, except to every man his wife and his sons. Let them take them, and go.'
And David said, 'My brothers, you shall not do so with that which the LORD has given us, for He has protected us and has delivered into our hand the company that came against us; for who will listen to you in this matter? But as his part is that goes down to the battle, so shall be his part that stays by the provisions. They shall divide alike.'
And it was so, from that day forward he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day."
— 1 Samuel 30:22–25 (Faithful Version)
Scripture says David established this as a statute and ordinance from that day forward.
In other words, the men carrying the provisions mattered just as much as the men carrying the swords.
And that principle still speaks to us today.
There are people right now sitting in darkness, fear, loneliness, confusion, grief, addiction, isolation, and exhaustion.
There are truck drivers crossing this country through the night.
There are elderly people losing their eyesight.
There are veterans fighting private wars.
There are families hanging on by a thread.
These Audio Bibles need to reach them.
Let's place the ultimate Truth into the ears of those who need it most.
